I have a love/hate relationship with this mobo. Once it’s set up, it works like a dream!

It comes with a very basic BIOS which doesn’t allow it to operate much at all. To get it up and running, you need to install the latest version of BIOS from a flash-drive. That means that you have to have access to a working computer that you can use to download the latest BIOS onto a flash-drive before you can upload it onto the mobo. It was a complicated process for this novice, but now that I’ve done it, not so very difficult after all!

The next problem was that the mobo won’t access my old HDD’s because it operates UEFI protocol. According to the manual, which I had to download onto my phone (!), the protocol can be switched to accept other versions, but my initial attempts have been unsuccessful. I therefore had to download Windows onto a flash-drive, via another computer, and upload it onto the mobo.

Because the mobo is cutting-edge, it has 2 iSSD ports. I had bought a 1TB iSSD as part of the build and the installation was fairly straightforward, but fiddley.

And now the ‘love’ bit!!! The build powers up in 15 seconds and powers down in 5 seconds. The in-built WiFi works well, even though one of the antennae is loose – I’d have to take the mobo out of the case to tighten the nut!

Although I’ve not given it a stern test, it performs all the ordinary tasks effortlessly and shows every sign that it could allow my R5 CPU to fly!!!

One last thing; the BIOS for this board isn’t on the MSI UK list – you have to get it from the MSI US list!!! As I said at the start – a love/hate relationship!!!

Motherboard is great, two M2 slots on a micro atx with wifi and bluetooth feels like a great deal at this price point.

FOR WIFI AND BLUETOOTH FUNCTIONALITY you will need to install drivers from MSI, mine did not work or recognize until I completed this step.

There are two ways to go about this.
You can install the “MSI Centre” from the microsoft store. This program is insanely hard to navigate, and most people can’t get past the terms and conditions. (You have to read it for continue to light up). The consensus is that it’s junk but can’t vouch past the terriible intro.

OR, you can install Dragon Center. I went this route and it was pretty painless (search auto for drivers, install drivers, done).

Just be careful not to update BIOS from dragon center or MSI center.. this has been known to cause problems on MSI motherboards. Always flash from a USB to be safe

I got this for my ryzen 7 5700X. It came with a fairly current bios so I didn’t have to update which was nice. There is a newer one out there but I’m not worried about updating it because everything works. This is a great motherboard for the price, lots of features, it has 4 ram slots which is very nice, it can handle rgb if you want it, and the board with 32gb of 3200 ddr4 ram is very quick. combined with a 3060 12gb gpu and its my main gaming rig. I liked the board enough that I got a second one for another project. Also it sounds like AMD is going to be releasing some new AM4 cpus so I would expect this bord to support them with a bios update. So we’ll see if the future of AM4 is going to live on for a bit yet. I really like this motherboard, there isn’t much it can’t do. Even the wifi is nice and fast.

Box was open but everything seemed fine. Motherboard checked out and was easy to work on. Wifi is stable and it didnt need an update for the Ryzen 7 i put in. All in all i would buy again.
